Broken

I want to talk about being broken, which pertains to every person that has been born.  The other day I was helping my son-in-law with some painting and while doing so we moved their refrigerator and a container fell from the top of it, and because it was pottery, or glass, it broke into pieces on the floor.  My son-in-law wasn’t very happy about it because it was part of a set and he knew my daughter liked it.  I heard him say that he was going to try to fix it by gluing it back together but with that many pieces I doubt if he could and even if he managed to do it, it would never look, or be, the same again.

When I think about this, I think about people and how we were all broken because of the sin nature we were born with.  This includes every person that was born of natural parents, so this does not include Jesus, for He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and never had a sin nature and He never sinned.  From the day we were born, you might say we were broken.  We had a terminal disease called sin, doomed from birth.  Most people hate to hear that they have a terminal disease that cannot be cured and all they have to look forward to is death, but that was all of our conditions when we were born.  You might say the cards were stacked against us and no one could change the verdict.

Paul explained our condition and the reason man was without hope at one time in Romans 1:18-32, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

Because God is just, there is a penalty for our sin and it causes a separation between God and man that man cannot remove.  In our condition we were without any means to make ourselves right with God. We were totally broken without a means to be mended on our own but because of God’s mercy, grace and love, He made a way for us to be justified in His presence by providing His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

It says this in Romans 5:6-11, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”

It also says this in verse 12, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”

When we were without hope, He gave us hope and it has been provided for all who put their trust in the Lord.  Read what it says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

This excludes no one!  So, if you are still broken and need to be fixed, only God can do that.  Cry out to Him and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior.  Tell Him about your brokenness and ask Him to forgive your sins, to throw them into the sea of forgetfulness to be remembered no more, and cleanse you with His precious blood and wait on the Lord to fill you with His perfect peace and joy, then thank and praise Him!  Be sure to share your experience with other people.  I have given you a lot to think about, I hope you will and there will be a positive result.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
