Do you understand the privilege there is in holding someone up before the Lord in prayer? Prayer is an avenue to God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son helped along by His precious Holy Spirit. Every person who blesses somebody in prayer is an encourager. When you bless someone by holding them up in prayer you are doing a very special thing for that person.
Not only that but every ministry that is being done in the church should be bathed in prayer, basically saturated in prayer. Prayer is communion between us and our heavenly Father. If we have been born-again our Heavenly Father wants us to communicate with Him.
Remember when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, God would ‘walk with them in the cool of the day,’ what He was doing was communicating with them. How do you think you would feel if you had a son or daughter that would never talk to you or communicate anything to you? This was the problem when Eve was deceived and sinned and then Adam chose to sin, it caused a separation between them and God breaking their holy communication. Instead of hearing kind words from God and having the close relationship they had with God prior to that, God was very stern with them and, instead of blessings, curses were applied to their situation which have affected mankind ever since, causing a separation between God and mankind.
This wasn’t God’s plan because God is love and He always wanted communication and fellowship with His creation so He provided Jesus Christ His Son to be His reconciler between Him and His creation, being us. It says in 2 Corinthians 5:18, “Now all these things are from God who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
After the fall there were many years of separation between God and man except for a few chosen people, but since Jesus gave His life a ransom for all who would believe on Him, we can come to the throne of God boldly having a special and intimate relationship with Him, communicating to Him our love and devotion, our praise and thanksgiving and also our needs and the needs of those we are praying for, praise the Lord! We can talk to the Lord about everything because He is interested in every little detail and He always answers.
So if you are not communicating by prayer, interceding for yourself or someone else, don’t be bashful start today and don’t give up. And be an encourager by holding someone up before the Lord today.
Think about this story in Exodus 17:8-13 where Amalek fought against Israel. Moses told Joshua to choose some men to go out and fight against Amalek. In the meantime Moses, Aaron and Hur went up on top of the hill. When Moses lifted up his hand with the staff in it, Israel would be winning the battle but as soon as he dropped his hands down they began to lose. This is where Aaron and Hur came in to encourage Moses and help him. They took a stone and put it under Moses and as Moses sat on it they held his hands up, one on each side of him, until the sun went down and Joshua defeated Amalek that day. Without Aaron and Hur it would have been a whole different outcome. With their help and encouragement the Israelites were victorious, praise God!
As Christians we are all in a battle against the enemy of our souls and sometimes we get tired and we feel weighed down like Moses did and we need someone to come along side of us and hold our hands up, so to speak, in prayer. You should count it a privilege to pray for anyone that asks you to, it may mean the difference between victory and defeat in their lives. Something to think about, have a great day and may the good Lord bless you and yours!
