Are You Being Corrected

Normally before a person comes into your house, the first thing they do is knock on your door, then, you open the door.  Why do they knock on the door?  They knock to get someone’s attention in the house.  If all they did was walk up to the door and stand there they would probably be standing there waiting for a long time.  If someone enters your house without knocking it is either someone you know or a thief wanting to help themselves to your goods and money.

There is someone who knocks on the door who will never enter without being invited in; His name is Jesus, He knocks on the door of your heart.  It says this in Revelations 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

In this situation Jesus is talking to the people that were in the churches from the previous chapters.  Every one of these churches had a problem and Jesus was calling them to repent of their sin and He would forgive.  In verse 19 of that same chapter Jesus said, “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.”

Sometimes as Christians we become lackadaisical and complacent in our walk with the Lord and many become lukewarm for various reasons.  Some can get that way because of prosperity and material possessions, like the Laodicean church that thought that they needed nothing.  There are preachers that emphasize prosperity; preaching that money and possessions are the believers lot in life but be careful, look what Jesus said about this church in verses 17, 18, “Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,’ and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.”

I have said this before, you can treat God’s blessings as a curse or a blessing and remember this, just because you have a lot of money and material things they are not always a sign of God’s spiritual blessings.  God knows the heart of every person and just like this church, He knows what will bring us down and may destroy our commitment to Him.  I don’t think being rich should ever be the goal of a believer because it can, and has, destroyed many lives.  The Word says if you are faithful in little things, you will receive bigger things.  So instead of seeking riches and possessions from God, just seek the heart of God and His kingdom and He with take care of the rest.  If you are lukewarm and complacent, repent and ask the Lord to forgive you.  And remember the Lord loves you and if He needs to correct you, it will only be out of love for you.  God bless you and yours and have a great day!!  PS don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord.
