Who Are We

Who are we that God is mindful of us, that He cares about us and that He loves us with an unconditional love, lavishing His love, mercy and grace upon us and His free gift of salvation?  When I think of His holiness, His righteousness and purity and how perfect He is and then how rotten, despicable and sinful we are at birth, why does God care anything about us?  Just think of this, God is so pure, holy and righteous He cannot even look at sin, but because of His love, compassion, mercy and grace, He made a way for us to be right with Him.  When we were His enemies and blasphemers and totally depraved, He loved us and prepared a way for us to be right with Him through His amazing grace, by sending His beloved Son to give His life a ransom for all who would receive His free pardon.  It was like each of us was on trial and the verdict was guilty and the sentence was death with no parole and He stepped in and took our place, the innocent for the guilty.

This is what David said about his, and our, condition at birth, in Psalms 51:5, “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.”

For many people, Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection is hard to conceive or imagine; it even seems like foolishness, but it is the truth.

Read what Paul says about this in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,

‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside.’

Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, ‘Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”

In the Old Testament we read of sacrifices for sin and then in the New Testament we read of the ultimate sacrifice, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, which is God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.  Just like the animals had to be without spot or blemish that were sacrificed for sin in the Old Testament, we also needed a perfect sacrifice for our sins to be forgiven, cleansed and washed clean and Jesus was the only one that could fit that criteria, for He was the sinless one who was willing to lay down His life for us, and He did just that, praise His holy name!!

Who are we to deserve such amazing grace?  We are God’s creation, made in His image and likeness and we are fearfully and wonderfully made, plus God created us to have a relationship with Him, can you say praise the Lord!!  If you can’t, maybe you need to ask Him to be your Lord and Savior!  Jesus suffered a great deal for your salvation, so don’t let it be in vain in your life.  Jesus wasn’t willing that any be lost but that all would come to repentance.

Read what it says in John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”

God’s Word says that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved, so call on Him, while He may be found.  Like I said ask the Lord to be your Lord and Savior, and it wouldn’t hurt to ask Him to forgive you of your sins.  Don’t be in a hurry, let the Lord fill you with His peace, love and joy, then you will walk away rejoicing.  Then share with others what the Lord has done in your life and start growing in your faith.  Start attending a church that teaches the Word of God!!  Something to think about!   May you have a super day and may God bless you and yours!!
