Are you committed to the voice of the Lord, or do you hear,
but not really hear or see? I know the
verses below are from the Old Testament and God was telling Jeremiah to declare
this to the house of Jacob and to Judah, but people haven’t changed much, we
also have our idols, they may be different than theirs but nevertheless they
are idols.
Read Jeremiah 5:20-25:
“Declare this in the
house of Jacob
And proclaim it in
Judah, saying,
‘Now hear this, O
foolish and senseless people,
Who have eyes but do
not see;
Who have ears but do
not hear.
‘Do you not fear Me?’
declares the Lord.
‘Do you not tremble in
My presence?
For I have placed the
sand as a boundary for the sea,
An eternal decree, so
it cannot cross over it.
Though the waves toss,
yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet
they cannot cross over it.
‘But this people has a
stubborn and rebellious heart;
They have turned aside
and departed.
‘They do not say in
their heart,
‘Let us now fear the
Lord our God,
Who gives rain in its
season,
Both the autumn rain
and the spring rain,
Who keeps for us
The appointed weeks of
the harvest.’
‘Your iniquities have
turned these away,
And your sins have
withheld good from you.”
How many times have you listened to someone and a little
later you could not remember a word they said? That may be selective hearing, but how many
times have you heard a pastor or teacher speak and your mind was somewhere else
and you missed out on some very important news that would have helped you, if
you would have just listened? I think
most of us fall into that category at times, but it is very important to listen
or we may miss the voice of the Lord speaking to us, whether it is coming from
the pastor or the teacher or even from the Word as we read it.
He may also choose to speak to you in a dream, or in your mind,
while you are praying or in some other situation. I believe I have heard the voice of the Lord
on more than one occasion but I wonder how many times I didn’t hear Him when I
should have, or could have, but I wasn’t listening. We can either choose to listen or choose to
involve ourselves in other things. I can
remember not so long ago that instead of me listening to godly things, I chose
to listen to worldly things. I wonder
how many times I missed the voice of God through that period of time because of
my lack of commitment. I wasted hours of
my time on foolishness when I could have been growing and learning and drawing closer
to God and being more committed instead of being deceived or deceiving myself
and separating myself from God. We all
have choices to make and there are some things we cannot avoid because of our
choices.
Read what it says in Galatians 6:5-10, “For each one will bear his own load. The one who is taught the word is
to share all good things with the one who teaches him. Do not be deceived, God
is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who
sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows
to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in
doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then,
while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to
those who are of the household of the faith.”
Every action has a result, either good or bad. We all have a free will and can choose to do our
own thing but we will reap the consequences. So how committed are you and how important is
your relationship with the Lord and hearing His voice? I thank the Lord that He got my attention and
turned me around and helped me to see the error of my ways so that I could repent,
which I have, and get back on the right path once again, praise the Lord!! I don’t want to reap destruction; I want to receive
eternal life. What about you?
Something to think about! May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you
have a great day!! p.s. don’t forget to
thank and praise the Lord.
