Yesterday I did a ‘Tidbit’ on rejoicing with those that
rejoice, today I want to do one on weeping with those who weep. This is what the Word commands us to do in
Romans 12:15, “Rejoice with those who
rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”
This calls for love and compassion on the part of the believer.
There are times when we need to put everything
else aside and just listen and weep with a grieving brother or sister in the Lord.
Jesus showed us an example of this in John
11:35, “Jesus wept.”
This is the shortest verse in the Bible but yet it says so
much. It teaches how compassionate, caring
and kind Jesus was, and is, and that He is concerned enough to weep with His
friends. He was also concerned because
of the result of the sin of mankind which brings death.
In our society men are taught that they are supposed to be
macho men and never say that they are sorry and never cry, but the Word teaches
us that there is a time to rejoice and a time to cry. If Jesus wept, we should not be ashamed to weep
also. Sometimes when we experience our
brother or sister hurting, the first thing we want to do is fix it. So, we start throwing Bible verses at them, and
even though our intentions may be good and honorable, we need to realize that when
a person is grieving our words may just fall on deaf ears, so instead of
talking we may need to be silent and be a listening ear and seek the Lord for
the proper time to speak. Sometimes listening
and weeping are the best things we can do at that particular time.
I think this is the shortest ‘Tidbit’ I have done but if I added
it to yesterday’s ‘Tidbit’ it would have made it very long and it may have discouraged
people from reading it, and that is not my purpose. I hope this will be an encouragement and a
blessing for all who read it and I hope it gave you something to think about. May the good Lord bless you and yours and may
you have a blessed day!!
