Danger

Let’s look at Psalms 91:1-16 today.  I don’t know who wrote this Psalm but the theme is God’s protection in the midst of danger.  Aren’t you glad that God sticks with us closer than a brother and that His Word tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us?

Think of Daniel in the lion’s den and how God shut the mouths of the lions and how He was right there with Daniel protecting him from certain death.  Lions were kept pretty hungry so that when things like this took place the lions would spring on their unsuspecting guests with fury, devouring them.  The reason I say this is because after this incident with Daniel, the king had the men responsible for Daniel’s lion experience be thrown into the lion’s den and it says this about what happened, in Daniel 6:24, “And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions—them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den.”

Then there were Daniel’s three friends that were thrown into the fiery furnace.  In this case the Lord was in the furnace with them, read about it in Daniel 3:20-27, “And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?”

They answered and said to the king, ‘True, O king.’

‘Look!’ he answered, ‘I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.’

Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, ‘Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.’ Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.”

There were many others mentioned in the Word and all down through the ages that were in danger that God also protected.  God always protects His people but that doesn’t mean that many haven’t died for their faith, some are not only counted worthy to suffer but some even to die for their faith.  We are not promised a world with no danger, but if we are God’s children, we are promised that He will be with us and will not forsake us regardless of what we may face, praise the Lord!!

This should encourage you!  Read Psalms 91:1-16 and take heart if you are in a dangerous situation you are not alone:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”

Something to think about!  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
