Jesus said this in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
Most believers have heard this verse over and over again but
let me ask you this question; how did Jesus overcome the world? By being true to the cause He was sent here
for and not wavering or being in any way conformed to this world or its system.
No matter what the cost He never gave
into intimidation or temptation. Jesus
accomplished everything He was here walking the earth for. He never disobeyed or rebelled against His
Father God on any point, but remained true to the end, learning obedience
through suffering.
Read what it says in Luke 4:16-21, “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His
custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to
read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened
the book, He found the place where it was written:
‘The Spirit of the
Lord is upon Me,
Because He has
anointed Me
To preach the gospel
to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal
the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to
the captives
And recovery of sight
to the blind,
To set at liberty
those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the
acceptable year of the Lord.’
Then He closed the
book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who
were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, ‘Today
this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”
These were all things He came here to accomplish, which He
did. After accomplishing all these
things and allowing Himself to be ridiculed, whipped, beaten, spit upon, mocked,
scorned and having a crown of thorns being thrust down on His head, He allowed
Himself to be crucified, hung on the cross with nails piercing His hands and
feet like a lamb led to be slaughtered saying not a word and all for us. Then we hear these words, “It is finished!”
This brings to mind a song called, “It is finished” by the
Gaithers, listen to it. If this doesn’t stir
your emotions and maybe bring tears to your eyes as you meditate on the words and
think of what the Lord has done in your life and how Jesus suffered on your behalf,
then you better check your heart and see if it is still beating. Jesus Christ did this all for us.
He not only overcame the world, but because of what He did
for us we can also overcome. But, how do
we overcome? How will we overcome the
wicked one and this world’s system if we are believers and how did the
believers that went before us overcome?
Read what God’s Word says in Revelations 12:7-11, “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and
his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but
they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So
the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan,
who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were
cast out with him.
Then I heard a loud
voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our
God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren,
who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they
overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and
they did not love their lives to the death.’”
If we are to overcome, it can only be done if we have been
born-again, cleansed and washed by the blood of Jesus, which Jesus accomplished
by the way of the cross. Without believing
that Jesus is God’s only begotten Son who willingly gave His life a ransom for
all and that through His shed blood we have been forgiven and reconciled to God,
we will never overcome because this is the testimony of every overcomer. Along with this, we have become new creations
in Christ. We overcome by walking in the
spirit and not gratifying the flesh, but crucifying the flesh daily.
I have given you something to think about and hope this ‘Tidbit’
has encouraged you. May the good Lord
bless and may you have a super day and don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord!!
