Strong and Powerful

Today we look at man’s ability to do powerful things.  I have been into weightlifting and exercising most of my life and I am still exercising at my age.  I think that I was very strong at one time and was able to lift some decent weight, but when I think of God and the things that He can do I stand in awe of Him.  Just think about it, there is nothing He can’t do.  He has created everything and all He had to do was to speak them into existence, how powerful is that?  There are many people that look up to power lifters and desire to be as strong as or even stronger than they are.   I used to be one of them, I always wanted be stronger and stronger and bigger and bigger but I never made it to many of the power lifter’s statuses.

Look what it says in Genesis.  We read of God creating the world, with all His majesty and power He spoke the world into existence.  Did you ever notice in Genesis where it talks about creating all the things that were created, it says this, “and God said,” to let this or that take place and it came into being, just the way He said it?  Read it for yourself in Genesis 1:1-31.  God spoke the word and it happened.

This reminds me of when Jesus was sleeping in the boat with His disciples and a storm came up and the wind blew and the waves rose.  It says this in Matthew 8:23-27, “Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We are perishing!’

But He said to them, ‘Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?’ Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, ‘Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?’”

Did you notice that Jesus got up and rebuked the storm by speaking to it and it became calm?  All Jesus did was rise up and speak the word with authority and the wind and the waves bowed down and said, “excuse me Master.”  I heard those words in a song so I thought I would put them in here.  I am not saying that really happened, but the Word does say this, “And there was a great calm.”

The Word of God is very powerful and this reminds me of what it says about Jesus in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”   One thing we always have to keep in mind is this; Jesus was fully God and fully man when He walked the earth.  God’s Word also says that Jesus was present with God at the start of creation; it says this in John 1:2-3, “He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

If you think about how vast the heavens are and realize how many stars there are, which cannot be counted except by the One who created them, and how many galaxies there are, and throw in the sun and the moon and all the other things that are out there, you know that God is all powerful and there is none other that can be compared to Him.

Do you know that if you are a born-again believer you have this power dwelling within you?  The Word says this in 1 John 4:4, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

There are many disappointments in this world and sin and temptation are everywhere, but thank God we have the power to overcome them.  We also have the Word of God that we can use to fight against the evil one by hiding it in our hearts.  The Psalmist said this in Psalms 119:11, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”

With all this power, you should be encouraged to hang in there, and if you don’t give up, you will be an overcomer.  You have all the power you need to stand until the end, regardless of the situations that come your way.  It says this in Revelations 12:10-11, “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.’”
There is still power in the blood and the Word, so start using it.  Something to think about, God bless and have a super day!!
