A Believer’s Purpose

 What is our purpose, as believers, and why are we saved and set apart in the first place?

Is it just to warm a pew or just to get fat on the Word as we hear it

Is it just to make us feel good so we can go around smiling like the
    (Cheshire Cat) in the book “Alice In Wonderland”

Is it just to get our foot in the door, so to speak, and to escape the
   wrath of God that the unbeliever will experience some day

Or is it to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives

Jesus said this in Luke 4:16-21, “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.’

Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, ‘Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”

Jesus also said this in John 14:8-14, “Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.’”

When you read these things you can see that we are saved for a greater purpose than to just satisfy ourselves; we our saved so that we will pour ourselves out into other people’s lives, like Jesus did.  That is why each one of us has been given gifts, so we can fulfill the great commission together.  The only way we can accomplish this is if we have love for one another and stop separating ourselves because of our differences in opinions.  If believers can’t love and accept each other without judging and condemning each other because of our differences in theology, how will we love the unbelievers and what about our enemies.

When the Lord comes back for the real church, I am afraid the hypocrites, which are the pretenders that think they are saved with their pious attitudes, will be left behind.  Either you love or you don’t, stop playing games and show your love by your actions.  Something to think about; God bless and have a great day!!
