The God Of All Comfort

In this world of strife, problems, discouragements and uncertainty we can be totally devastated sometimes, feeling like we are the only ones that are struggling.  At those times we need to feel that there is an anchor that we can hold onto.  When our world feels like it is spinning out of control we need a sure footing, a place where we can stand firm and totally secure. There is only one place we can find that kind of security and it is in the Lord, the God of all comfort.

The Lord promises rest for your soul in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

In verses 20-24, Jesus was talking about the different cities He had visited because even though they had seen the mighty works He had performed they still didn’t repent.  They needed the Lord’s forgiveness and His comfort and a personal relationship with Him.  He said it would be more tolerant for the other cities than for them, for if the other cities would have seen and experienced the mighty works that these cities did they would have repented.  What these people needed, along with everyone else that is living, is to know Him, not to just know about Him, but to personally know Him intimately.

Think about our nation and the other nations in the world, there is hardly a city or town that doesn’t have a church or many churches in them.  Many people have the Word of God sitting on their shelves and can hear a sermon 24 hours a day on their TV’s but multitudes still don’t believe and have never repented and trusted in the Lord, they will have no excuse on the Day of Judgment.

The Lord is extending His invitation every day, like He did to the Samaritan woman He talked to at Jacob’s well in John 4:13-14, “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’”  This woman Jesus was talking to had physical and spiritual water mixed up, drinking physical water would always leave you thirsty again but the living water would satisfy your spiritual hunger forever, praise the Lord!

Jesus also talked about living water in John 7:37-38 saying this; “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

When you seek the Lord with all your heart you will find him.  When you seek to know Him more, He will reveal Himself to you.  And when you hunger and thirst for righteousness, you shall be filled.

If you are a child of God He is your comforter, look to Him.  Remember God’s children are not exempt from trials, tribulations, problems and persecutions, we live in a fallen world and we will experience these things but when we go through them we have the God of all comforts to comfort us.

There is another thing we need to remember, we not only receive comfort, but we need to comfort others that are going through these trials also.  Paul put it this way in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Just as Paul suffered persecution and trials and was comforted by the Lord, we can expect that same comfort to comfort us when we need it; then we will have the encouragement and strength to comfort others.  Something to think about, may the Lord bless you and yours and have a super day!!
