What Are You Seeking

What are you seeking the Lord for?  People seek the Lord for many reasons, some for healing, some for provisions, others for deliverance from trouble and others for the miracles, but none of these should be the main purpose for seeking the Lord.  Some seek Him for His compassion, mercy and grace.  We can seek the Lord for all these things and miss out on the main purpose that He came to walk the earth, and that was for our spiritual need.  Some people seek the Lord for financial gain and others for power; if we gain all these things and miss out on the true purpose He came, we will miss out on heaven and spending eternity with the Lord.  Without a spiritual change, all the other things you can possess mean nothing.  Many people, when they are sick, seek the Lord for healing to prolong their life on this earth, but what about when they walk through death’s door?  Eternity lasts far longer than the time you will spend here and where you spend it is very important.

Take the people of Gennesaret, when Jesus visited them, read what it says about this encounter in Matthew 14:34-36, “When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.”

It seems like these people believed in Jesus as a healer but nothing is said about them believing that Jesus was the Son of God.  I wonder if any of them believed on him for anything beyond a healer.

Jesus is much more than a healer, He is a provider, a great teacher, He was the best.  He is also the Creator of the Universe and a sustainer, protector and a comforter.  Jesus is also the Savior of all who believe in Him as their Lord and Savior.  Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords and so much more.  When we make a decision to invite Him into our lives and we are born-again, He becomes our personal Savior and our friend, not our homeboy, but a respected, loving friend.  Jesus also becomes our personal deliverer, one that we can confide in, one that keeps our secrets and doesn’t gossip and run us down behind our backs and one that doesn’t abandon us every time we disappoint Him.  Jesus is the one that we can fully trust and rely on to be always faithful.  Although these people came for physical healing, nothing seems to suggest that they also came for spiritual healing which is far more important than our bodies being healed.

What about you?  Are you seeking Jesus for what you can get from him or are you seeking his heart and a changed life?  Are you sick of trying to run your own affairs and living a life with no real purpose?  Are you weary of the rat race, trying to out maneuver everyone else to make it to the top?  Or are you just tired of the ho-hum life, not knowing what to except from day to day?  Maybe you have overwhelming situations or circumstances take place in your life and you are looking for answers.  You may be weary in the pursuit of God, searching in all the wrong places.

Let me encourage you to look to Jesus, there is no other way to get to God but through Jesus.  At Jesus’ crucifixion the veil that separated man from God’s presence in the Temple, except for the High Priest who was ministered at that time, was rent from top to bottom without hands and Jesus became the veil, so you must go through Him to get to God.  He loves you unconditionally and He has all the answers to life’s dilemmas and He can help you.

He said this in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

The veil was 60 feet high and 30 feet wide and was said to be 4 inches thick.  The purpose of the priest was to sprinkle the animal’s blood on the mercy seat once a year for the forgiveness of sins, but the only way the priest could go in behind the veil was with the blood.  The veil separated sinners from a most Holy God.  Christ was the ultimate Lamb of God who shed His blood on the cross for the sins of all of us.  Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins, plus it had to be a perfect sacrifice and Jesus was that perfect sacrifice.  Without His perfect blood being applied to our sins, we cannot come to God because He will never allow it.  When a person is born again through faith and God’s grace, they will be covered by the blood of Jesus.  When God looks at them He will see the blood, it has to be that way because God is so holy He cannot look at sin.

So unless you come by way of the cross with Jesus’ blood applied and your sins and you are cleaned by it, you will only be kidding yourselves and you will never get to God.  I know people teach that there is more than one way but that is a lie, so don’t be deceived.  God’s Word says, “there is a way that seems right to man but the end thereof is death.”

The truth is what Jesus said in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

Something to think about!  May you have a super day and may the good Lord bless you and yours!!
