Jealousy

Jealousy is a jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc. or against another's success or advantage itself; or a mental uneasiness from suspicion or fear of rivalry, unfaithfulness, etc., as in love or aims; or a vigilance in maintaining or guarding something; or a jealous feeling, disposition, state, or mood.

Probably all of us have experienced this behavior before, some more than others.  Jealousy between siblings happens quite often but should be discouraged because it will escalate as the siblings get older and cause heartache and resentment; at times even worse things, such as downright killings and murder or a whole gamut of other problems.  There are many people in prison that have this problem because they didn’t deal with it and seek counsel to help them overcome the problem.  Jealousy can cause sickness and diseases that can end in bitterness, rage and even revenge.

David and King Saul was a good example of this.  Read what it says in 1 Samuel 18:5-9, “So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. And Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants. Now it had happened as they were coming home, when David was returning from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women had come out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments. So the women sang as they danced, and said:

“Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands.”

Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” So Saul eyed David from that day forward.”

At first King Saul liked and respected David but that turned to jealousy, bitterness and hatred; and he was that way until he died.  What happened to him?  It was a flaw in his character; always wanting people to look up to him, his pride and jealousy got the best of him!!  Jealousy is an inner flaw that causes outward harmful actions and we need to avoid it so that we won’t succumb to it.  Another problem he had was instead of humbling himself and repenting and asking for forgiveness, he held onto his pride and his pride and jealousy ended up destroying him.

If you have a jealousy problem, seek help before it ends up destroying you and who knows how many others beside you, because of the anger it can cause.  I have given you something to think about.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
