I will let you answer these questions yourselves, but think
about them carefully.
Which is more important to you, God’s
laws or man’s laws?
Why do we have laws and why are
laws so important anyway?
I have heard it said that laws are
made to be broken, is that true?
Are all laws good and, if not, which
ones can we break?
What about believers, we are not saved
by keeping the law or by our
good works, so what good are the laws
or why are the laws so important?
One thing the law did was to show us how sinful we really
are and how much control the sin nature has in our lives. Anarchy happens when there is no law and men
become the law in themselves, in other words, whatever man thinks is right for
him that is what he does.
It says this about the law in Romans 3:19-20, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it
says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all
the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no
flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Without the law we would not be guilty of sin because we are
responsible for what we know. If there
was no law saying thou shall not steal so you steal something, how could you be
pronounced guilty? But, if the law was in
effect and you steal, knowing full well it was wrong, you would be found guilty
and justifiably so. When it comes right
down to it, no one can be justified by keeping the law because no one can possibly
keep all the laws, never breaking one. Only
Jesus Christ has ever accomplished that and if we could keep the whole law we
would have something to boast about.
In God’s Word it says this in James 2:10-11, “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and
yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He who said, ‘Do not commit
adultery,’ also said, ‘Do not murder.’ Now if you do not commit adultery, but
you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.”
Knowing this, we know that we cannot ever be justified by keeping
the law or by any kind of works that we can perform. So does that mean we just ignore the law? By no means, we do our best to keep the law
knowing that God’s laws were put in place to help us live moral and godly lives,
knowing that we have been justified by faith, or made right, with God through
His grace freely given to us who believe on God’s only begotten Son, Jesus
Christ, as our Lord and Savior and not by the law.
Abraham was a good example of this, it says this about him
in Romans 4:1-8, “What then shall we say
that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was
justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For
what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him
for righteousness.’ Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace
but as debt.
But to him who does
not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted
for righteousness, just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to
whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
‘Blessed are those
whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are
covered;
Blessed is the man to
whom the Lord shall not impute sin.’”
Abraham was not justified by keeping the law, or by works,
but he was justified by faith, believing God to keep His promise. God’s Word says this, “That the righteous
shall live by faith.” If you think that you
can be made right with God by your good works and trying to keep the law, you
are wasting your time, it cannot be done. There is only one way to be made right with
God and that is by God’s grace through faith, there is no other way.
God’s Word says this in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through
faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest
anyone should boast.”
Keeping the law the best we can is very important, but
relying on the law or our good works to make you right with God is not the
answer, even if it was possible, which it is not, like I said earlier in this
Tidbit. Coming to God and believing His
promises and what His Word says about Him, and His beloved Son Jesus, and receiving
Jesus as your Lord and Savior is the answer.
God’s Word says this also in Romans 10:8-13, “But what does it say? ‘The word is near
you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we
preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your
heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the
heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be
put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same
Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For ‘whoever calls on the name
of the Lord shall be saved.’”
If you have heard this and applied it to your life, praise
the Lord! If you haven’t heard or have
not received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, my prayer is that you will pray and
ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you and be your Lord and Savior, don’t be in
a big hurry, tarry awhile and let the Lord fill you with His perfect peace,
love and joy. Then get a Bible and start
reading and start growing in your faith.
Share your experience with others then find a church where the Bible is
taught and preached. God bless you and
have a super day!!
