Condition of Man

Sin, what is it?  It is willful rebellion against God.  It is knowing the good you should do but not doing it, the Word says it this way in James 4:17, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

I think most people know what sin is but let me give you two kinds of sin that you may not think of.  There are the sins of commission and the sins of omission.

The sin of commission is knowing you are doing something wrong but you just do it anyway, like King David with Bathsheba when he committed adultery with her and had her husband killed.  He knew beforehand or prior to the incident, that if he did that, it was unlawful, totally against God’s laws.  They are sins willfully committed.

The sin of omission is like knowing you should do something, or say something, but you don’t.  Let’s say you hear someone planning evil against someone and you don’t speak up or someone falsifies a story in your presence but you keep still because you don’t want to offend the person speaking.

Sin is a transgression of God’s law.  Sin is the main problem with human beings because we are all born with a sin nature causing us to have a tendency to sin.  Years ago sin was preached and taught in most services but today it seems to be excluded often, maybe for the same reason, not wanting to offend people.  It seems to me, if all we do is tell people that they made bad choices or decisions and mistakes it is like putting a bandage on a gash in your side that needs stitches and hoping it will go away.  I don’t know how many times sin is mentioned in the Bible but I think it is many, many times.

Talking about sin seems to have become much too negative in our day so more and more it seems to be substituted for other words that are not so unpleasant words that will soothe the listener rather than making them squirm under the Holy Spirit’s convicting power that brings real repentance and genuine freedom.  What we need is a genuine Holy Ghost revival, when that takes place pastors will get back to preaching and teaching the truth.

God’s Word talks about the state of man in their un-regenerated condition in various places in His Word, it says this in Romans 3:9-20:
“What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin.

As it is written:

“There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”
“Their throat is an open tomb;
With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;
“The poison of asps is under their lips”;
“Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
Destruction and misery are in their ways;
And the way of peace they have not known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

It also says this in verse 23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

We are all guilty and we all deserve spiritual death and eternity in Hell but praise be to God for His unconditional love, as it says in Romans 5: 8-11, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”

Even though we all deserve death and suffering Jesus made a way for us to be reconciled to God, this is what it says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Even though we all could have been condemned, God’s grace and mercy is extended to each and every one of us, it says this in John 3:16-18, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

So if you are reading this, you have no excuse for being left behind when the Lord Jesus comes back to take His bride home to be with Him.  What are you waiting for?  Ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior and to forgive you of your sins.  Don’t be in a hurry, take some time and tarry in His presence and let Him fill you with His peace, love and joy, then go share your experience with others.

And remember God’s Word says this in John 8:34-38, “Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

If the Lord sets you free of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or whatever the sin; you are free.  I am living proof of that, I am not bragging on me but I am praising the Lord because He set me free many years ago of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and other things like porn and a party lifestyle, and He can do the same for you.  I believe if you are really sincere and not just playing games with the Lord, He will also do it for you.  Jesus said, “when you seek Me with all your heart, you will find me.”   So the choice is yours, I have given you something to think about.  I hope you will act on it and apply it to your life today.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
