Reaping

Are you reaping what you sowed?  When we experience hardships we can blame it on many things but we may be reaping what we sowed and not realize it.  Reaping what you sow, I believe, is a universal problem, in other words, I think it happens to the believer as well as the non-believer.  I also think it covers many areas in people’s lives.

If we treat people badly I think it will come back to haunt us someday.  I think if you help people you will receive help when you need it.  I think when things happen we don’t understand, we need to think about how it relates to us and our own actions instead of blaming everything or everybody else for whatever situation we find ourselves in.  If we are overweight, and it is not because of a physical problem, whose fault is it?  It is our fault.  If we smoke, drink alcohol or take mind altering drugs we will reap the consequences in the long run.

The same thing happens if we sin, there is going to be correction sooner or later.  Think about this, a believer is struggling financially and can’t figure out why; could it be that person was stingy and never gave of their finances and now it has come back to haunt them?  If we tend to be negative and pessimistic it will be hard to live by faith because we will question everything with a negative, pessimistic view.  If a person gossips about others, he will receive the same kind of treatment.  If people curse others they will be cursed, if they bless others they will be blessed.

I think God gets blamed many times for our own actions and so does the evil one although many times we are just reaping what we sowed.  If you are an angry person losing your temper often you probably won’t have many friends because many people will try to avoid you.  I wonder how many times we think God is angry with us and taking His anger out on us, which we have no excuse for, because we brought it on ourselves as the result of the reaping and sowing process.

There are many things in our faith walk that we have to learn and put into practice but it takes time.  I think some people think they got away with sin because God doesn’t correct them right away, but the reaping and sowing will take place, don’t kid yourself.  The Word says this about this subject in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

Think about this, a farmer doesn’t expect corn if he plants tomato seeds, he expects tomatoes.  We all know that whatever seed we plant that is what it will produce and this applies to the spiritual realm; it says this in verse 8, “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

So my suggestion to both you, and myself included, is to be careful what we are sowing and let us do what verses 9-10 say in that same chapter, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

It sounds like if we love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and our neighbor as ourselves we will be doing good, praise the Lord!  Something to think about, have a great day and may God bless you and yours!!
