Learn a Lesson

I want to talk about the Word of God this morning, which is one great, true story broken up into many books and divided into two sections, the Old and New Testaments.  The Old Testament is filled with all kinds of examples so that believers can learn great lessons from them.  In the New Testament Jesus told many stories and parables also for the believers benefit, plus there were many other men that God called to write the Bible.

The stories and parables were all put in there for a good reason; in the
Word it says this in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  You will receive wisdom, knowledge and great insight, as well as a means to grow in faith.

The Bible is the greatest book ever written and has sold more copies than any other book that I know of.  It is a real privilege to own one, and to make that possible, there are people that have given their lives, so that most everyone that wants one can have one, that is if you live in a free country that allows you to have one.  There are maps and all kinds of information you can obtain in its many pages.  In its pages you will find everything you need to live a holy life and many other things as well.  It tells about the Creator of life, which is God, and about His beloved Son, Jesus, and about His Holy Spirit as well as the plan God had for His Creation. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This book is God’s love letter for all to read, study and apply to their lives.  I have tried to read the Word every day for over thirty years and I am still reading it most every day so that it will become, as it says in Psalm 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”  My prayer is that I will never be ashamed of the gospel of Christ.  The Word says in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The Word talks about heaven and how beautiful it is and how Jesus went to prepare a place for every born-again believer.  It speaks about how men and women sinned against God and the reason why they were in that position before their rebirth and that every born-again believer becomes a saint at his or her rebirth by God’s grace and power, praise God!

It tells about God’s plan of salvation for everyone that would believe in Him and how it would come about and the hope it would give to all who would believe, repent and turn from their wicked ways.  It speaks of God’s love, mercy, forgiveness and grace that He lavishes on those who don’t deserve it and how He blesses both the godly and also the ungodly.  It also talks about God’s judgment and wrath, and how He is a just God.  It also talks about the consequences of sin and a place called Sheol, or what some call Hell, where the wicked will end up if they don’t repent and turn from their sinful ways.

It also talks about the joy of the Lord being the true believer’s strength and what a privilege it is to serve the Lord along with serving His people.  It talks about worship in the Old Testament and how the church came about in the New Testament and so many other things, like healings and deliverance of all kinds of things and also about the lives of many men and women and I could go on and on, but I hope I have whet your appetite.  Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

If you haven’t been reading the Word and you are a believer, and live where you can read it, shame on you.  Don’t be like many believers that ignore their Bibles and make up excuses that they are too busy to read them.  God wasn’t too busy to have it written, He knew that we would need them and He always provides what true believers need.  So, if you are not reading yours, get it down, dust it off and start studying, asking the Lord to teach you the truth and bring the things you need back to your remembrance at the right time through His precious Holy Spirit.

I hope this ‘tidbit’ will encourage you to start reading and studying God’s Word so that you might not sin against Him, something to think about.  May God bless you and yours and have a great day!!
