A Day of Thanksgiving

Every day should be a day of thanksgiving and praising, especially for the believer, and Thanksgiving is the day that we set aside as a nation to give thanks to our Creator.

As President, on October 3, 1789, George Washington made a proclamation and created the first Thanksgiving Day designated by the national government of the United States of America.  My interpretation of that is this: I think it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge their maker as the Sovereign Lord over Heaven and Earth and all that is contained therein.

As the church of God, believers have so much to be thankful for.  In America we still live in a free Country with freedom of religion and freedom of speech, at least at the present time, thank the Lord.  Many of us will sit down and enjoy a great dinner with turkey and all the trimmings with family and friends, for which we should be very thankful.  We should be thankful to all the men and women who by their sacrifice, and many even their very lives, made this possible.

If we live in the United States we can be so thankful that we live in one of the greatest nations in the world.   The reason I say that is because I believe Israel is also one of the greatest nations in the world.  Both nations have been blessed mightily by the Lord and Israel will continue to be blessed, but if we continue on the path we are going we will be cursed, which I already see signs of happening.  We need to be thanking the Lord for His mercy and grace that is still in effect today.

Everyone hates to see tragedy strike them, but when it happens it should remind us of all the different things that we take for granted, such as electricity, food, water and plumbing and the homes or places where we reside.  All these things, plus our clothes and all our possessions, can be gone in a very short time, which happened to many not long ago and caused much devastation.  We need to be thanking and praising the Lord for His many blessings now when we can still enjoy them, and we need to glorify Him in all we do and our nation needs to turn back to God as one nation under God once again.

We need to thank God for who He is, what He is, for what He has done and also for what He is going to do.  We need to thank Him for providing Jesus to be our Savior and Lord and for all that He has accomplished in our lives.  We should thank Him for our families and for providing, sustaining, delivering and protecting us and all of His blessings.  We should thank Him for His precious Holy Spirit that resides in every born-again believer.  We should thank Him for His continuing favor and love, and for His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us.  We can thank Him for health, prosperity and the plan He has for us, which is to prosper us and not harm us and to give us a hope and a future.

I could go on and on and I am sure you have many personal things that you can thank and praise the Lord for, and I hope you will.  I wish one and all a very Happy Thanksgiving and may the good Lord bless you all!!
