Struggling With Addiction

Many people have struggled with some kind of addiction in their lifetime, and many of these addictions have been brought on by their own choices.  Take for instance smoking, drinking or drug use.  Most of these are chosen addictions that you were not forced into, no, you deliberately chose to do them.  There are other addictions you may have which you didn’t choose, like fear, anxiety, worry and there are many more.

I believe that every addiction a person has can be overcome if you are a born-again believer.  A believer has the power of the Holy Spirit within them and they have the power to overcome any bad habit or addiction they have.  I am not saying that you will be delivered in a moment, but you may, what I am saying is that you can be delivered from whatever addiction that has you bound.

What you need to do is trust the Lord and walk in Him in faith.  Many today seem to walk by sight believing only in what they can see, but faith is us believing in things we cannot see.  How many believers have seen the Lord?  None, but every true believer believes that He exists.  Many have given their lives because of what they believe.  I believe that you can be delivered of anything and be healed of anything if you have faith and if the Lord is willing, because I know that nothing is impossible with the Lord.  I also believe that it will happen in God’s timing, not ours.

The reason I know this, is not because I read it, or even heard of it, no, it is because I have experienced deliverance and healing, which I thank and praise the Lord for.  When I was committed to the Lord over thirty years ago, I was delivered from drugs, smoking, alcohol and also the party life that I was addicted to, almost instantly, praise the Lord!  Later I was healed of asthma and was also told I had Macular Degeneration in my eyes but I was told 2 years later I didn’t have it and I hadn’t taken any medicine for it, praise the Lord!  As a believer I went through 12 to 14 years of heavy depression that I was delivered of, and I never went to a doctor, although I did go to the great physician in prayer many, many times through those long years.  I also was delivered of many fears I had growing up and even had as an adult, praise the Lord!

Now think of this, am I any more special to the Lord than anyone else, or you for instance?  Not according to the Word.  Or did I have any more faith than you?  That I can’t answer.  I do know that the Lord gives every true believer a measure of faith, if not, it would be impossible to please Him or believe in Him, because it says in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”  I don’t think any believer has an excuse that they don’t have some faith, I think that we all have to build on the faith that we have.

It seems like it doesn’t take huge amounts of faith because Jesus said this to His disciples when they had a problem casting out a demon in a boy in Matthew 17:14-20, verse 20 says, “So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’”  Jesus also added this in verse 21, “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

These verses are hard to accept because many times we pray but we don’t see the results we are seeking.  It may be a lack of faith or a lack of fasting or it may be some sin in our lives we haven’t dealt with, I don’t know, but the Lord’s Word is true so it seems that it has to be something on our part.  I know that the Word says in John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

So if you need to get your house in order, do it and don’t give up, keep yourself clean from sin, work on your faith and continue to pray for your deliverance, it may be just a prayer away.  Something to think about, may the good Lord bless you and yours and have yourself a great day!!
