Joyful Noise

Psalms 100 is a praise Psalm and should be an encouragement to any and all believers.  This Psalm is an invitation to enter into the Lord’s presence with thanksgiving and praise.  We don’t know who wrote this Psalm but it must have been birthed in the heart of a joyful and appreciative person that knew that it was important to praise the Lord.  Someone who knew the Lord very well and knew that no matter what circumstance he found himself in the Lord was worthy of praise.

Psalms 100 starts out in verses 1-2 with this, “Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.  Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing.”  I wonder what kind of person you are.  By that I mean do you wake up in the morning with praise, spending time with the Lord singing and praising or do you grumble and complain?  It seems like many people are grouches in the morning until they have their coffee and breakfast.  The problem is they can make everyone around them feel miserable and, because of it, their day starts out on a sour note and not a joyful noise.  The Bible says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”  It is not your coffee that should invigorate you, stir your emotions and make you happy, no, it should be the joy of the Lord.

How you serve the Lord says a lot about you, serving joyfully seems to be contagious, drawing people to you and the Lord you serve, grumbling and complaining drives people away and damages your testimony and does not honor the Lord.  Just knowing that the Lord is good and that He created us to fellowship with Him and that we are His people should motivate us to praise Him.

Verse 5 says, “For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.”  God’s goodness and mercy is everlasting and is always there, without it we would still be lost in our sin and headed for a fiery pit where there will be torment, weeping and gnashing of teeth, where there will be pain and suffering.  Just the thought of escaping such a horrible place should cause us to rejoice and praise Him and to sing a joyful noise to Him in our hearts and from our lips.

In Psalms 98:1 it says, “O sing to the Lord a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him.”  This reminds me of a song I haven’t heard for a while that goes like this, “Sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord all the earth, sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord all the earth.  For God is great and greatly to be praised; God is great and greatly to be praised.  Sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord all the earth, sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord all the earth.”  This is a great song to start your day with or, better yet, write your own song and sing it joyfully to the Lord for He is truly worthy.  I think if you do that your day will start out much better and the rest of your day will turn out much better also, try it.  Something to think about, God bless and have a great day!!
