Obedience

The Word says this in 1st Samuel 15:22–23 after King Saul had disobeyed the Lord and Samuel, “Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord?  Behold to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.  For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry.  Because you have rejected the Word of the Lord He has also rejected you from being King.”

Think about your walk with the Lord, how many times have you sacrificed   things to the Lord?  I don’t mean sacrificing animals like they did in Jesus’ day and before, but what have you given up since you have become a Christian?  There are many things you may have given up that would help you to grow in the Lord such as TV, sometimes food or some activities you have done in the past, the list could go on and on.  All these things you could relate to as sacrifices and it should make you feel better because you were willing to sacrifice these things that may have hindered your walk with the Lord.  But what about your obedience, are you faithful to the Word of the Lord or are you just a hearer and not a doer of the Word?

King Saul heard what Samuel told him but he didn’t obey.  This happened twice and King Saul lost his kingship, the Lord regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.  In the days of King Saul God was looking for people that would obey Him and He is still looking for faithful people today that will hear the Word and put it into practice.

The king that followed Saul was David, the Word says that he was a man after God’s own heart.  Was he a perfect man?  No, he was just a man who loved God and strived to serve Him.  Being a king was quite a responsibility just like being the president or a pastor or a church leader today.  People in these positions are looked up to as role models for others to follow. These positions have a great influence on many people.  Think about the kings in the Bible, those that honored the Lord brought a blessing on themselves and on the places they served in.  Those that didn’t and were evil brought God’s judgment on themselves and the places where they reigned.

The Bible says in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows this he will also reap.”  If we disobey, sowing to the flesh, we will reap God’s judgment.  If we obey, sowing through the Spirit, we will reap God’s blessings and please the Lord.  The choice is ours to make so let’s do our best to be obedient and honor the Lord.  God bless and have a great day.
