Good Old Boys

This is something you will want to pay close attention to.  I heard a song about this earlier today so I thought I would write on it.  I am afraid that when the Lord returns many are going to wish they had listened to the good news when they had the opportunity and not made the mistake of thinking that they were just ‘good old boys’ thinking they would be accepted into heaven, which will never cut it.  You may think you are a ‘good old boy’ because you have been pretty good, and that may be true, if you compare yourself to other people, but you have a problem.  How do you fair when you compare yourself to God?

There is not one person who could stand up or compare themselves to God who is himself fully righteous and totally blameless, without sin.  The Word of God speaks to the ‘good old boys’ mantra, let me try to help you out here.  Let me ask you some questions: Have you ever lied?  Have you ever stolen anything, or have you ever cheated anyone?  If you say yes to anyone of these questions you are guilty, and you will not get into heaven because you cannot get right with God if you haven’t been covered with the blood of Jesus and washed and cleansed.  There are many other questions I could ask you, but many people could never get by these three questions without being guilty.

Please read what God’s Word says about this in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Now please read Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”

Now please read Isaiah 64:6, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

David said this in Psalms 51:1-5, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in thy sight;
That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”  This is David’s repentant prayer when Nathan, the prophet, came to him after he went to Bathsheba!!

We were all born in sin, with a sin nature, which makes all of us guilty of sin for
which we could do nothing about but here is the good news.  God loves us so much that He has provided a way, and that being the only way that we could be made right with Him, and that is being covered with the precious blood of His only begotten Son Jesus by His death.  Jesus willingly gave His life on a cross, suffered, died and was buried and then rose from the grave (tomb) on the third day because the grave couldn’t hold him, and death had no sting. God’s Word says without the shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness of sin.

Please read Hebrews 9:22, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

If you want to know more about this subject read Hebrews chapters 9 and 10 in the Word of God.

If you want to hear about God’s love and mercy and some fantastic words of good news please read John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

So, the ‘good old boys’ theme won’t work, but godly sorrow will, it leads to true repentance that will result in salvation, Praise the Lord!!  Check it out, read 2 Corinthians 7:10, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”

Like I related to already, if you are counting on your own righteousness, as far as being a ‘good old boy’ is concerned to get you in right standing with God you are mistaken, it is not by our own righteousness but Christ’s righteousness that will put in right standing with God!!  When we have truly repented and turned from our wicked ways (Sin) and received into our hearts by faith the Lord Jesus, then we can be forgiven and saved (Born-again) and covered by the righteousness of Christ, that is real good news.

Enough said may you and yours have a super day and may the good Lord bless you with His perfect peace, love and joy and health and happiness!!
