Children of Light

This morning I thought I would do a Tidbit on this subject.  If we are born-again, we have certain responsibilities as the children of God.  We need to walk as those that have been set free of the darkness and brought into God’s marvelous light.  We need to be imitators of God, as dear children who are loved by God.  We need to walk in love as Christ hath also loved us and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God as a sweet smelling savor.

Here are some of the things we shouldn’t take part in, read Ephesians 5:3-10, “But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.”

We need to reflect God’s goodness to those we come in contact with, for we are the light of the world.  Read part of the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus taught in Matthew 5:13-16, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

While doing so, we must shun the evil pleasures that present themselves in this world and pursue godly activities.  The way we can resist the temptations, snares and the lusts of this world are by walking in the Spirit so that we don’t fulfil the lust of the flesh.  Read what it says in Galatians 5:17-21, “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

We all have fleshly, evil desires and we should not ignore them, we must deal with them.  If we are going to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading, we need to crucify the flesh daily.  Read what it says in verses 24-25, “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

If we are in Christ, we need to show forth the fruits of the Spirit, read about them in verses 22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

Let us walk as children of light, who have been set free of the deeds of darkness so that those that see us will see our good works and glorify our heavenly Father!!  I have given you something to think about.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!  PS don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord!!
