Hospitable

I feel that hospitality, even though not spoken of as one of the spiritual gifts, is a gift that the word of God speaks of and is used to help other believers.  The writer of Hebrews recommended hospitality to the brothers and sisters so that they would bless and encourage others in the faith.  Hospitality was to be used towards strangers also.  The writer of Hebrews spoke this to the brothers and sisters in the Hebrew communities, please read Hebrews 13:1-2, “Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”

Hospitality demonstrated looks like this, to gladly welcome people and strangers into your home to encourage, to bless, to feed and clothe them.  These are what I call some of the good works believers can do to honor the Lord through hospitality.  The writer also said to remember the prisoners as though you were fellow prisoners with them, and also those who are mistreated as if you also were suffering bodily.

How many of you have visited prisoners that are confined because of their faith?  Here is another idea, visiting people in hospitals and nursing homes to encourage them and lift them up.  Please read 1 Peter 4:8-11, “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins.’ Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

We all know someone that seems to have a gift of hospitality, someone who seems to make everyone comfortable whether friend or stranger.  These people love people and are willing to help them and to bless them in one way or another, expecting nothing in return with no selfish motives.  This reminds me of the good Samaritan who came across a man who needed help badly and was willing to stop in a dangerous place and give the man some much needed help.  Even though it would cost the man his time and resources and possibly even his own life, he was willing to do it regardless expecting nothing in return; that is what I call hospitality.

What about you?  Do you see yourself in this scenario somewhere?  I think I may fit in that scenario somewhere.  Well I think I have said enough about this.  I hope this is a blessing and a help to you. May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you all have a super day!!
