The Pool

There is a story about a lame man in John 5:1-15, but for this Tidbit I will only use verses 1-6, “After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’”

As I read this story, I thought about this man who had this problem for 38 years and wondered how many people over that period of time he saw healed and how bad he wanted to get into the pool first when the water was troubled to be healed.  Thinking about this man having been bedridden for 38 years, which is a very long time, and having no way to get into the pool first, must have been devastating and heart breaking to the point of helplessness and depression.  I can’t imagine the hours he spent thinking that maybe somehow the next time he would get in first and be healed, but after so many years he may have just given up on that idea completely and just accepted his fate, so to speak.

I think as believers we have the tendency to do the same thing, we pray and seek others to pray for us and when we don’t see the results we want to see, many times we have a tendency to give up, thinking that our sickness is just God’s will for our lives.  I thought that same way for many years about my severe asthma problem that I dealt with for over 55 years.  Then one day I was miraculously healed; I haven’t had to take any medicine for asthma for at least eight years or more, praise the good Lord!!  I used to think perhaps the same way this man may have been thinking, I will never be healed, then Jesus shows up and this man is healed instantly, praise the Lord who is to be ever praised and is so worthy amen!!

This should be an encouragement to everyone that reads this!  If you have been waiting for a healing, Jesus is the answer and this may be the day that He, in His infinite mercy, grace and love may heal you, but if not, don’t throw in the towel, so to speak, and give up, your healing may come tomorrow.  Stay faithful and trust the Lord, standing on His promises no matter how long it takes.  It is hard to imagine how excited this man must have been after all those years of not being able to walk and in a moment of time he gets up and walks for the first time in 38 years, praise the Lord!!

The Lord is the same miracle worker today as He was then so keep the faith and trust the Lord and keep praying and never give up!!  Something to think about!  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day and don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord!!
