No Sign Given

I wonder how many non-believers have said, “If God would just do something spectacular I will believe, if I could just see some kind of miracle.”  One thing we have to understand is non-believers have no spiritual insight in the Word, and anything in the spiritual realm has to be spiritually discerned, for without the Spirit of God they will never fully understand, nor can they

Read what Jesus said to the religious leaders in His day in Matthew 12:38-40, “Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, ‘Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.’ But He answered and said to them, ‘An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.’”

These men knew about Jesus and the miracles that He performed but most chose not to believe in Him, so another miracle wouldn’t have made a difference, they would have just wanted to see more and more instead of truly believing who Jesus really was.  Jesus came to save the lost and they were no exception but they refused to believe in Him.

There is a parable about a rich man and a beggar named Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31, read it, “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

This is a different situation; this was talking about selfishness and not caring about others, plus an unwillingness to share his abundance with Lazarus.  In this case, this rich man had five brothers that he didn’t want to end up where he was so he wanted them to see a miracle also a man raised from the dead thinking they would repent.  But, read what verse 31 says again, “But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

No matter how many miracles some people see they will not believe because they have hardened their hearts and refuse to believe.  In the end neither these people nor anyone else will have any excuse not to believe and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior and repent of their sins and ask the Lord to forgive them.  Read what it says in Romans 1:18-25, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”

What about you, are you seeking the Lord for who He is and what He is, or are you just seeking Him for His miracles?  Something to think about!  Only you can answer that question.  I hope this will encourage you to seek Him because you want Him to be Lord of your life and not just for what He can do for you.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
