Count Your Blessings

“Count your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings, see what God has done, count your blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings, see what God has done.”  With all the negative things going on in the world around us and the negative voices we hear, we need to be careful to not allow our minds to be so preoccupied with negativity that we start being negative ourselves.  This song is a reminder of what we can do to help us stay positive and not fall into the, “woe is me,” trap.

As believers we have many enemies that are opposed to our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.  So many try to disprove the Word and discourage those that hold to the faith that claims Christ as the only begotten Son of God.  There are many that use their talents and abilities to bring down or harm and destroy others faith, which is very dangerous and consequential.  What we need are encouragers, those that build one another up in the faith.

Read Hebrews 10:19-25, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

We need to enjoy encouragement from one another and we can even encourage ourselves in the Lord, read Ephesians 5:19-20, “…speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…”

We can overcome doubt and negative remarks by building one another up in the faith and standing on the Word of God, seeking a vibrant prayer life and keeping ourselves from the world’s vices, not conforming to them.  In this way, we can transform our minds and learn what the good and perfect will of God is and walk in it, not gratifying the desires of the flesh.

Another thing we can do is count our many blessings and name each one, bringing them back to our remembrance.  Look up the song, “Count Your Many Blessings.” Listen to it and be encouraged.  Then start counting all of them, by the time you get to the end of the list you should be encouraged once again.  Do this every time you get down and depressed.  Something to think about!  May you have a super day and may the good Lord bless you and yours!!
