The Word says this in 1 Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is a root of all
kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
What people do with their money says a lot about them, it
speaks volumes. Everyone knows that we
need a certain amount of money to survive in this life. But to seek to be rich can be you greatest downfall.
Money can be such a blessing because it
can be used to pay bills, put food on the table, pay for certain needs and even
some wants, along with helping others. If
you notice the Word doesn’t say that money itself is the root of all evil, it
says the love of money is the root of all evil. It seems that some people get that mixed up. But to many it can seem to be a curse, stealing
contentment and joy and causing people to be unsatisfied, always wanting more and
more. Some people long to be rich and
will do most anything to attain that goal.
Have you ever wondered why God doesn’t make every believer rich?
Let me give you my thoughts about it. First the Word says this in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together
for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His
purpose.”
Believers are a work in progress and God is working behind
the scenes to help them to be transformed more each day into His image and likeness.
He knows us inside out because nothing
about us is hidden from Him and He knows what it will take to get us motivated
and moving in the right direction.
Do you realize that God knows what our response will be to
any given situation? Think about Peter,
the Lord knew that he would deny Him even when Peter was so dogmatic saying
that he never would and that he would die for Him and you probably know the
rest of the story, but in case you don’t, Peter did deny Him three times. God knows what everyone can handle and how
they would handle large amounts of money. God knows that if He made every believer rich
it would cause many of them to stumble because they couldn’t handle that kind
of responsibility and it would cause their downfall.
Like I said, God loves us so why would He do something that
could eventually destroy us. God does
prosper His people but that could come in the form of blessings of many kinds,
not just money. What we should pray for
is contentment in the things that God has blessed us with. Read what it says about this in 1 Timothy 6:3-21,
“If anyone teaches otherwise and does not
consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the
doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is
obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife,
reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and
destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From
such withdraw yourself.
Now godliness with
contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is
certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we
shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a
snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction
and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which
some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows.
But you, O man of God,
flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience,
gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which
you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of
many witnesses. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things,
and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius
Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord
Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the
blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has
immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see,
to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
Command those who are
rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches
but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do
good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing
up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay
hold on eternal life.
O Timothy! Guard what
was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and
contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge— by professing it some have
strayed concerning the faith.
Grace be with you.
Amen.”
Think about this, being rich even with what you think are
the best intentions, can cause you to come to ruin. I think Peter had real good intentions when he
said he would not deny the Lord and that he would even die with Jesus but his
actions proved that his good intentions were not enough. It seems that I heard this statement before, “the
road to hell is filled with good intentions.”
Something to think about, I hope you have a super day and that the good
Lord blesses you and yours, and that you won’t forget to thank and praise the
Lord!!
