Power

Yesterday I talked about the ultimate power relating to the Holy Spirit’s power.  Today I would like to talk about the power that Jesus possessed.  Of course we know if we are truly born again and have studied the Word, that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one in three persons, but today’s Tidbit will be focus on Jesus, the Author and finisher of our faith and His power.  We know that Jesus healed by the power that went forth from him.

God’s Word says this in Mark 5:24-34 in the N.A.S Bible, “And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.  A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. For she thought, ‘If I just touch His garments, I will get well.’ Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched My garments?’ And His disciples said to Him, ‘You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.’”

Jesus also demonstrated His mighty healing power many times, not only to heal but also to deliver from demonic activities and to set people who were captive free of demon possession.  Read this in Luke 8:1-3 in the N.A.S Bible, “Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.”

And don’t forget about the demonic man of Gadarenes in Mark 5:1-9 KJV Bible, “And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, and cried with a loud voice, and said, ‘What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.’ For he said unto him, ‘Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.’ And he asked him, ‘What is thy name?’ And he answered, saying, ‘My name is Legion: for we are many.’”  This man could have had as many as 6,000 demons and they all fled at the power of Jesus’ words and the power He possessed.

Now think about this in Mark 4:35- 41 KJV Bible, “And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, ‘Master, carest thou not that we perish?’ And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, ‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, ‘Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?’ And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, ‘What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?’”

Jesus also had the power to raise the dead, which He did on more than one occasion.  Just to mention one account, it was in John 11:38-44, “Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, ‘Take away the stone.’ Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, ‘Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?’ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, ‘Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.’ Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come forth!’ And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, ‘Loose him, and let him go.’”

Let me mention this also, it is found in John 18:3-6, “Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, ‘Whom are you seeking?’ They answered Him, ‘Jesus of Nazareth.’ Jesus said to them, ‘I am He.’ And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. Now when He said to them, ‘I am He,’ they drew back and fell to the ground.”  The power Jesus possessed, and His word caused all these men to go backward and fall to the ground which consisted of a large number of people plus Judas who betrayed Him.

Then, think about this, Jesus was so powerful that the grave couldn’t hold Him, for even death had no power over Him.  Now think of this, the same power that raised Jesus from the grave resides in us who are His children.  The Bible says this in 1 John 4:4, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”  This should be an encouragement to all of God’s children.  The power that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us, praise the Lord!  This is something you and I should be excited about, I hope you are.

And don’t forget the blood of Jesus has the power to cleanse sins, so if you are reading this and you don’t personally know the Lord and you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit nudging you to make a decision to leave your life of sin and repent, I hope you will not grieve the Holy spirit by refusing the invitation to invite Jesus to be the Lord of your life.  Let His mighty power change you into a new creation and set you free today.  For all of you that have drifted away from the Lord, rededicate yourselves today to the Lord, repent and ask the Lord to forgive you and to set you free from the grip of the evil one and receive His forgiveness and start growing.  Please don’t put it off, today is the day to start a new life.  Something to think about!  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
