Victory

There is a song I have heard that came into my mind this morning.  I think the title is, “There is Victory in Jesus.”  I like the song but haven’t heard it in a very long time.  I think it is a good song for our times because I think it is good to keep this in mind when living in a world of uncertainty.

It takes me back to the times the Lord gave me victory in many areas of my life.  He gave me victory over alcohol, drugs, depression, cigarettes and all that goes with the party lifestyle.  He also gave me victory over bitterness and un-forgiveness and many fears that I have had over the years.  Jesus has given me victory over a heart of stone that couldn’t love and put a love in my heart and showed me how to love.  He has given me victory over sin, hell and the grave.  I am far from perfect, now and then I still struggle with some of these things, temptation will always be present in a believer’s life but I know that through Him I will always have the victory, praise the Lord!  He has put a desire in my heart to praise Him instead of taking His name in vain, to me that is victory also.  Jesus has given me victory over my enemies and the enemy of my soul.

It is good to make a list of things that the Lord has given us victory over and to thank and praise Him for what He has done in our lives and also for what He is going to give us victory over in the future.  Think about the future and what the Word says about it; the beast, the antichrist, satan and his evil hoard and then rejoice because we have victory through Jesus over all these things.  All of God’s people can live victorious lives because Jesus won the victory for us; He took the shame and humiliation and allowed Himself to suffer even to the point of death for our redemption and He won the victory.  We should have been the victim but instead we became the victors through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  This is exciting news, something to wrap our arms around, praise the Lord!

Because of what the Lord has done for us death has no victory and the grave has no sting.  Read what it says in 1st Corinthians 15:54-57, “When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.  Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?’  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Then it goes on and says this in verse 58, “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

When you get a hold of these truths you will count it a pleasure to do good works for the Lord.  Through God’s grace and our faith in Jesus we will overcome and be victorious.  It says in 1st John 5:3-5, “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

Writing these things not only encourages me but I hope it encourages you also.  Thinking about these things reminds me that we owe it all to the Lord because without Him none of these things or any other things would be possible.  So praise the Lord along with me and look the song up on line and sing it through a few times when you get a chance, it may change your whole perspective today.  God bless you and yours and have a super day!!
