God’s Word says that we are our brother’s keeper, if that is
true then we should not cause our brother or sister to stumble. That is why it is so important that we study
the Word of God so that we know the way we are supposed to live and act and
then put the word into practice. It is
also important to memorize the Word and try to read it every day so that we
will be so familiar with it that we won’t be deceived when someone tries to
deceive us.
What is the first commandment? To love the Lord your God with all your heart,
soul, strength and mind and the second is like it, to love your neighbor as
yourself. If we love God in that way, we
will love our neighbor also and will try to help them and not to harm them. God’s Word also says this, do not lean on your
own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your
path straight, or guide your paths. How
could anyone ever accomplish these things unless we know that we are supposed to
do them?
God’s Word also says to study to show thyself approved, a workman
who is not ashamed, who can rightly divide the word of truth. There is much deception and people are falling
into it every day, we need to seek the truth so that we will be fully prepared
and not fall into deception. Believe me,
if a believer only counts on someone else to teach them and to lead them into
the truth and doesn’t study for themselves, they should be very careful because
how will they know if what is being taught to them is biblical. In truth we are commanded to study God’s Word so that we will walk in truth so
as not to be led astray by false teachings.
When I got committed and truly dedicated to the Lord about
forty years ago, I couldn’t seem to get enough of the Word, I was in the Word quite
often, in fact it seemed like I was devouring the Word. I was in the Word so often that I think two or
three of the Bibles I used started to fall apart on me. I was in Sunday School and Bible Studies, I
have been in God’s Word most every day since that time and I am still reading
three chapters a day for the most part and I am still learning. I don’t know if anyone can learn it all, no
matter how long they have been in it. The
Bible is so rich in knowledge and understanding it seems to touch every area of
life and is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword cutting to the
bone and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Psalmist said this, thy Word have I hid in
my heart that I might not sin against thee. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and
a light unto thy path.
Another thing that is very important is praying and seeking
the Lord before reading God’s Word. Ask
the Lord to lead you into all truth and to allow the true teacher, the Holy
Spirit, to teach you and to bring the truths back to you when you need them,
you can be sure that He will only teach you the truth and never deceive you!! Then it is important to check a matter out for
yourself in the Word of God when other people are teaching you. Don’t let anyone discourage you in your
pursuit of biblical knowledge, you can be sure that there will be those that
will try to do just that. In my pursuit
of wisdom and biblical knowledge I have been discouraged by people that I have
corrected, including pastors which can get very upset when corrected. None of us are perfect and I have been corrected
also and I was thankful for the correction; I never intentionally want to lead
anyone astray.
I pray that this will be an encouragement and a help and
blessing to each person who reads it. May
the good Lord bless you and yours with His perfect peace, love and joy and
health and happiness and may each of you have a super nice day!!
