Unequally Yoked

What is this talking about you may ask?  Did you ever try to put a horse and a goat together to pull a wagon?  You may find yourself with a problem because they are not compatible, and they would be un-evenly yoked and they wouldn’t work together very well.  In this case the horse is far bigger in size and strength.  This would happen if you tried to do that with many other animals also.

Please read 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out from among them and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’”

I think these verses make it very clear what Paul had in mind here.  How many relationships, not counting marriages, have been destroyed because one party was a believer and the other a non-believer; it is kind of like mixing oil and water together, they are just not compatible.  Now think about a Christian marrying a non-Christian, you might say they start out with two strikes against them.  This may make up for some of the many divorces in the church.  This warning is there for a good reason, the divorces in the church may be surpassing those outside the church.  If more people will take this warning to heart, there would be a lot less problems between married couples and relationships before marriage.  Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes the wife or the husband may win over the other by their testimony, but it seems like there would be much less problems if two Christians got married in the first place.

I realize that sometimes two people that are not believers may get married and one may hear the gospel preached and dedicate their life to the Lord, but the spouse may be totally against it which could end in a divorce also, Paul taught about that situation also.  Please read 1 Corinthians 7:12-16, “But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?”

When my wife and I first got married neither one of us were living a Christian life, then not long after I rededicated my life to the Lord then around two years after that my wife received the Lord also and the Lord changed our lives, praise the Lord.  Since then I realized to have a super fulfilled married life it takes three, the Lord and the couple that got married, according to what the word of God says.

Now please read Psalms 127:1-2, “Unless the Lord builds the house,
they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.

I believe unless you include the Lord in whatever you decide to do whether it is a marriage, a ministry, a business or whatever it is, if you are being forthright and honest it will not be as fulfilling and successful as it would have been if you had included the Lord.  When a person depends solely on anything else but on the Lord, they are unequally yoked.  So if you want to be prosperous and free of the grip of sin in your life and to have the Lord help you build your life on Him, call out to the Lord in true repentance, which means to turn from your sins and turn to the Lord and confess that you have sinned against Him on numerous occasions and ask Him to forgive you and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness and to be your Lord and Savior.  If you truly mean what you say, I believe there will be a party in heaven with so much rejoicing just like God’s word says, please read Luke 15:7, “I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”

Enough said, I hope this has been a blessing and a help to you.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!  And if you are a believer already that is reading this, don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord for He is worthy!!
