Broken

Everyone comes to the Lord broken because of the sin and the baggage we carry.  When we repent and confess that we are sinners and ask the Lord to forgive us and to be our Lord and Savior, then He starts to make new creations out of us, if we allow Him to.  Read 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

As time goes on we become more like our Lord if we have truly repented and mean business with the Lord.  But it seems that some of us seem to change quicker than others and I can think of two things right off that might explain this.  One, read about Jesus’ parable about the sower of the seed in Matthew 13:18-23 and the other one would be this; Jesus said those that are forgiven more love more and those who are forgiven less love less, you can find this in Luke 7:47.  This I am sure of, that if we are not changing and growing in our walk with the Lord it is not the Lord’s fault, it is ours.

When we are born-again, our body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit, so the same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead lives in us.  God’s Word says, “it is not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit sayeth the Lord,” so none of us has an excuse.  Some of us just have other priorities and we have to examine ourselves to see what and who is the most important in our lives.  And for those that think they lived a pretty righteous life before they became born-again; maybe they were very religious people and did many good works, the Word of the Lord says in Ecclesiastes 7:20, “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”

Then read Romans 3:9-18, “What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways: and the way of peace have they not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Now read Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Now read what Paul the Apostle said about his accomplishments, or the way he lived before his encounter with Christ in Philippians 3:3-11, “For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

So you can see, we were all in the same condition before we received Christ and we cannot say it was anything we did before that because we were all enemies of God before our conversion.  Praise the Lord for His grace and the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.  There is only one way to get to God and that is through Jesus, His only begotten Son, and there is nothing we can bring but our wrecked lives and let Him put us back together again!!

Like I said when I started this blog, we are all broken when we are born because of the sin nature that we were born with, but there is hope in the Lord because God made a way that we can be put back together.  Though we have been marred by sin and even enslaved by it we can be set free through the precious blood of Jesus!!  God is committed to our welfare but we need to be committed also to forsake sin, to confess our sins and to repent, which means to go in the opposite direction and ask the Lord to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness and to be our Lord and Savior.

Like I said earlier in this lesson read 2 Corinthians 5:17 again, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

If things don’t change in your life and you claim to have been born-again, then maybe you need to examine yourself to see if you really are in the faith.  I have given you something to think about and this is the most important decision you will ever make in your life.  My prayer is that you will respond in all sincerity and truly be born again!!  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may have a super day!!
