Meaningless and Worthless

Thinking about these words, King Solomon may come to mind.  It seemed that he thought most everything was meaningless without a relationship with the living God.  It doesn’t make any difference how rich you are or the position you hold, or all the things you have or how popular you are, it is meaningless without a relationship with God.  Solomon was the wisest person that ever lived, outside of Jesus Himself, and he searched for satisfaction in every area of life and said it all was meaningless without God.  Man’s wisdom will never be enough to truly understand life; we all need the wisdom and knowledge that only God can give and you will only receive that with a relationship with God!!  King Solomon pointed his listeners to the most important need of man’s heart, the need to fill the void that is in each one of us because we were all made in God’s image and likeness.

Read what King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 12:9-14, “And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth. The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd. And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.”

Regardless of what we have accomplished in life, we will all stand before the Lord someday and have to give an account of our lives and the way we lived and what we did with God and His only begotten Son, Jesus!!  Let’s go to the New Testament and read about the Apostle Paul who also thought that everything was worthless compared to knowing Christ.

Read Philippians 3:3-11, “For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.”

If you look at Paul’s list of credentials and the position he held, even hailing   from the tribe of Benjamin, he had something to brag about but he considered them a loss and as dong without Christ.  Paul also considered everything worthless compared to knowing Christ.  Without Christ, life has no real meaning and every true believer knows it.  What about are you?  Are you tired of the rat race and trying to do it your way, feeling the emptiness of life’s struggles and disappointments, laboring for things that never satisfy?

Read what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Come to Jesus and let His peace, love and joy fill your heart and mind and let Him set you free of sin and striving with your own strength.  He loves you and has made a way that you can have a relationship with him.  He showed his love for you by suffering and allowing Himself to be crucified and buried, but that wasn’t the end, He rose again.  Repent of your sins and ask Jesus to be Lord of your life and let Him help you with the heavy burdens of life and, if you are sincere, He will!!  Something to think about!  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!!
