Busy

I have done a Tidbit on this topic before and this morning I was reminded of it once again.  It seems that many believers today are so busy trying to make things come together that they spend very little time with the Lord. Believers seem to run around like a chicken that just lost his head, so to speak.  In case you never knew this, if you cut the head off a chicken and put him on the ground he will run around for a bit before he lies down because of the nerves in his body.  I am not saying this to be funny it just came to my mind so I used it for an example.

Many believers probably would say there are not enough hours in a day to accomplish all that they need to do.  If you are a believer, the Lord should be the most important person in your life and there is nothing more important than spending time with Him.  There are some things a believer must prioritize in their life and one of them, the most important one, is to spend time with the Lord praying and studying the Word, just being in His presence.  I am not talking about a church service, even though that is very important also, I am talking about your private time.

It seems like whatever a believer’s or anyone else’s priority is, it usually gets accomplished.  It is good to learn in church, depending on who the pastor is and what he is preaching, because not all of them are teaching or preaching the truth.  That was true in bible times and it is still true today, but the good news is that every born-again believer has the true teacher living within them, praise the Lord, and that is the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said this to His disciples about the Comforter (Holy Ghost) in John 14:16-17, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

And Jesus also said this in the same chapter in verses 25-26, “These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

The disciples were with Jesus on many occasions and heard Him teach many things.  When Jesus left, to go be with His father, they would have to remember the things they were taught and also the things they would need to learn from that point on.  Some of them wrote some of the New Testament books of the Bible and because of their contribution we have the Word to study for ourselves, so we have no excuse for not reading it and learning what we can so that we won’t be deceived by smooth talkers.

The Word says this in 2 Timothy 2:14-19, “Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.’”

These things are very important because there are many deceivers and false doctrines being taught today.  It is imperative that you spend time fellowshipping with the Lord, praying, studying the Word and putting the things you learn into practice and sharing them with others, it will help keep you from being deceived.

Read what Jesus had to say to Mary and Martha about this subject in Luke 10:38-42, “Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, ‘Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.’  And Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.’”

Jesus wasn’t against what Martha was doing He was asking her to get her priorities in order.  Sometimes we can get so busy trying to serve the Lord that we lose our devotion for the Lord.  Then on the other hand we can be so busy with our other priorities that we hardly spend any time with the Lord at all.  There has to be a balance and the Lord needs to be our first priority.  Question: what is your main priority?

Something to think about, have a super day and may the Lord bless you and yours!!  PS don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord for He is worthy.
