The Word

The Word became flesh, God became man but He always remained God, He always existed and will never, not exist.  The Word had no real beginning and will never have an end, He will always exist.

John testifies to this in John 1:1-5, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

If Jesus was born in the natural way, having a human father then He would have been born in sin like the rest of the human race, but Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and He never sinned, He lived a sinless life.  Read Matthew 1:18-25, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel’

(which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.”

We can be confident in knowing who the Word was because John testified to it and John the Baptist also declared it.  Read John 1:14-18, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, ‘This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’) For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.

Now read what Paul the Apostle says about Jesus in Philippians 2:5-11, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

From what I understand these verses were probably from a hymn that the early church sang, this comes from the footnotes, along with these notes, in my King James Bible.  As a hymn, it was not meant to be a complete statement about the nature and work of Christ.  Several key characteristics of Jesus Christ are praised in this passage.

1-Jesus always existed with God
2- He is equal to God because He is God.
3- Though he is God He became a man in order to fulfil God’s plan of salvation         for all people.
4- He didn’t just pretend to have a man’s body- He actually became a man to identify with man’s sins.
5- He voluntarily laid aside His divine rights and privileges out of love for His Father.
6- He died on the cross for our sins so we wouldn’t have to face eternal death.
7- God glorified Him because of His obedience.
8- God raised Him to his original position at the Father’s right hand where he will reign forever as our Lord and Judge.

Jesus said this in John 10:25-38, “Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.’

The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, ‘I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?’ The Jews answered him, ‘It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.’ Jesus answered them, ‘Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken— do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.’”

If you are having a struggle with who Jesus is, study the scriptures for yourself while seeking Jesus in prayer.  Jesus said if you seek me with all your heart you will find me.  If you are sincere and truly want to know the truth you will find it.  Something to think about and have a super day and may the good Lord bless you and yours!!
