As a non-believer you have the old nature, or the old man, which stands against the things of God. You have conformed to the world’s pattern and the worldly ways of thinking, which I relate to as stinkin’ thinkin’. If you are an unbeliever, or you are not born-again, that way of thinking is natural. You naturally conform to the world because you can do nothing else. You are basically powerless to think any other way.
Before anyone becomes a born-again believer they are in the same situation letting the old nature run their lives. But when a person becomes born-again he or she is a new creature, or creation, in Christ and has the power to resist conformity to the world. The Word says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away behold all things are become new.” (KJV)
When you become a Christian the seed of God has been placed in you plus the Holy Spirit dwells in you and you have the power to be transformed instead of being conformed to this world. The Word says in Romans
12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God!” (KJV)
How do we start to non-conform to the world? By getting into the Word of God, studying it and putting the things we read into practice. This will take sacrifice and good choices. Also finding a church that preaches the Truth and not the watered down, user-friendly word that will not change your life but just entertain you. And don’t just take somebody’s word for it, get into the Word yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. The Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher. The Bible says this in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (KJV)
This is what is says in Ephesians 4:17–34 about living as a new person, “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” (KJV)
Well I think that says it all, so put on the new man walking in the Spirit and you will not gratify the flesh and you will put to death the old man and its sinful desires and be a victorious Christian, praise the Lord! God bless and have a great day. And don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord!!
