What Happened

What happened after God’s funeral?  I have heard this said, but God never had a funeral, He is very much alive.  He had no beginning and He will never have an end and no one is able to kill Him.  Question: how many believers really believe that God still lives?  The reason I ask this question is if there are so many people that claim they believe, why is there so little faith being demonstrated today, especially in this country?

Jesus said this in the Luke 18, “And shall not God avenge His own elect which cry day and night unto Him though He bear long with them? I tell you, he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?”  This is found in Luke 18:7-8!!

I think everyone knows that we are living in the last days.  This is a time when we should be drawing closer to the Lord and rediscovering who He is and not being conformed to the world or the things that are in the world.  Read 1 John 2:15-17, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

What are these things; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life?  Lust of the flesh is to gratify physical desires; the lust of the eyes is materialism craving and accumulating things and the pride of life is obsession with one’s status or importance.  Worldliness is not only behavior or the people we associate with or the places we go or the activities we enjoy, it encompasses all these things.

Think about this; when severe persecution comes, and it is just a matter of time, will you be able to stand up under it?  Will you stand on the Word of God or will your faith fail you at that time?  Pray that you will stand strong if God counts you worthy to suffer for Him or pray that you will not see the wrath of God that will bring judgement on the whole world someday.  In the United States we have been pampered for many years with very little persecution, maybe a verbal slur here and there but not much else.  What if it gets much harder like it has been in some other countries?  What if you lose your home and you have to go without food for a while, what then?  Believers are entertained so often, what if all that stops and all you have to depend on is the Lord, your family, or your brothers and sisters in the Lord?  We don’t like to think about it, but many believers have to live that way today, totally depending on God and other believers and family, many without shelter or jobs, living that way for long periods of time.

Many of us in this country have a hissy fit if our car breaks down or some other minor thing happens, like getting stuck in traffic.  And I am also guilty of these things, but if we think about it unless it is a matter of life and death what is the big hurry.  Our problem is we live in what you might call a microwave society and we have gotten so used to it that many of us have no patience anymore, so we want it now no matter what it is and we don’t want anyone holding us back from getting what we want.  That is why there is so much road rage.

Think about this; what would happen if your cell phones, IPad and computers were taken away, what would you do?  What about your TV and you had no entertainment, would the Lord be enough then?  Would you still have faith?  This could be a reality some day. Think about this; what do you depend on now if you need something?  It seems like today everything is at our fingertips just look to your iPhone or your IPad and find whatever you’re looking for.  Now just think of all the time you spend on these things, to say nothing about how much you spend on possessing them and the monthly payments to keep them, compared to how much time you spend with the Lord.  Have they become idols in your life or are they used for necessities?  What is the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning?  Are you seeking God’s kingdom or the things of this world?  Idols can come in all shapes and sizes, so be careful.

Things seem to change so quickly but one thing that never changes is the Lord or His Word and He always loves unconditionally.  If you have made idols out of your gadgets, put them down and rediscover who the Lord is and put your dependency on Him and start growing in your faith, we will need it as time goes on.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!! PS don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord for He is worthy!!
