Who or what are you depending on? Our dependency can be on many things, for instance;
money, jobs, popularity or fame, or a person, or the strength you have, or your
gifts and talents and I could go on. If
you are a believer your dependency should always be on the Lord.
Many people think they can get by on their own, thinking
they don’t need anyone else, but everyone needs someone and as far as I am
concerned I think everyone needs the Lord. There was a song out, I am not sure how long
ago, but I think it was called, “People Need the Lord.” It seems that we all face times when we don’t
know what to do and we need help, and that help, for a believer, is just a
prayer away. In other words, we need to
put whatever it is in the Lord’s hands, it may be a trial or a temptation, and
with faith we do our part to bring about the answer.
James tells us how we should respond when we face trials, read
what God’s Word says in James 1:1-8, “James,
a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which
are scattered abroad: Greetings. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall
into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete,
lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to
all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him
ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea
driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will
receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his
ways.”
James is saying when we face trials or testing, we should
count it all joy. We can profit from the
things we face and learn from them if we seek to, with a positive attitude. Hardships can help us to see what we need to
deal with in our lives and can show us things in ourselves that need to be
changed. God said that He would never leave
us or forsake us, so no matter what we face or what we are going through we can
know that the Lord will go through it with us; just like He was there with
Daniel in the lion’s den and the three Hebrew boys when they were thrown into
the raging fire and so many others. They
depended on their God and He didn’t disappoint them, He was there with them.
God isn’t working just to make us happy He wants to fulfill
His purpose for our lives. Read what Romans
8:26-28, “Likewise the Spirit also helps
in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but
the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be
uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And we know that all
things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the
called according to His purpose.”
Notice what it says, “to
those who are the called according to His purpose.” This promise is for believers who put their
trust in the Lord!! The Lord God loves
all of us and He has made a way that we can be justified, just like we never
sinned, which we are all guilty of. That
way is through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, which is the only way we can
get to heaven or be right with God. If
you put your trust in, or depend on, anything else, it will be like jumping in
water and expecting it to hold you up or just plain spitting in the wind, which
will do nothing for you but get you wet. Consider what Jesus said in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the
truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”
This is one of the most basic, important scriptures in the Word.
How can mankind get to the God that
created the world? There is only one way,
even though it seems very narrow to many people, and that is through Jesus, God’s
son, like I said earlier!! He knows everything
about you and everything you will face and He has the answers to all things and
nothing is impossible with Him!! So, who
are you depending on? Anything but the
Lord is like depending on straw or hay!! Something to think about! Have a super day and may the good Lord bless
you and yours!!
