Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & mirrors, what do these things have to do with a believer’s life?

What I mean by smoke and mirrors is deceptions and delusions!

Some of these things came to mind when I started walking after my run this morning.  Think of all the things you hear, and much of what you see, how much can you really trust?  I have learned over the years that things are not always what they seem.  You may think you know what’s going on but believe me unless you have been closely following the political system you have no idea what kind of shenanigans are going on behind closed doors.  Like I said, in this life today many things are not what they seem.  You may have a certain political party you like, or a certain candidate you like, so you vote for the person, or persons, just to find out that you were dead wrong, it happens all the time.

We count on people and we count on circumstances and situations that don’t pan out, many times, the way we expected them to.  It seems to me like smoke and mirrors. There are so many disappointments in life that knock us down.  Did you ever go to a movie thinking, ‘man this is going to be great,’ just to find out it wasn’t all it was hyped up to be?  There are so many lies and so much deception in our midst, it can make your head feel like it is spinning.

Think about T.V. commercials and advertisements, they make their products seem like they are the best and we need them because we can’t live without them, and many times we buy into what is being said about them.  Then we find out that many of the products are not at all what they were hyped up to be.  All these things affect the believer and non-believer alike.

Then there are lies about Evolution and books like the Da Vinci Code and many others trying to destroy your faith.  How many lies and disappointments can a person experience without eroding their faith to some degree?

Many of the churches have become user-friendly.  Many pastors seem to be afraid to preach the true gospel.  Many preach the gospel of popularity instead of truth.  Many times with all the different messages we receive, some find it hard to know what to believe.  Let me say this, “God is not the author of confusion,” no, that is what our enemy does.  If he can get you all confused and keep you in that state of mind then he can control your life and the way you think.  Smoke and mirrors is his game, along with deception and lies.

If you want to learn the truth pick up a translation Bible from the Hebrew and Greek language and sit down with it (or anyway you like to read) and start studying.  Don’t take anyone’s word for it, seek out the truth for yourself.  Before you start studying pray sincerely for the Lord’s help and His wisdom.  Then ask Him to teach you through His precious Holy Spirit and to bring the truths back to your remembrance when you need them.  If you are a believer it will happen, praise the Lord.

The Lord wants all His people to live in the truth. The Word says, “If you know the truth, the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) The Holy Spirit is the ultimate teacher and He will be faithful to any believer, filling them with Godly wisdom and knowledge.  So don’t let the enemy deceive you and hold you in a confused state of mind, rebuke him in Jesus’ name, ‘resist him and he will have to flee.’ (James 4:7) Then start studying with the Holy Spirit as your teacher, then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

By the way this advice has been tested and tried and it works, praise the Lord!  Have a great day and God Bless!
