Jesus The Bondage Breaker

The devil wants to steal, kill and destroy; Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.  Let me ask you a question, are you truly born-again?  Have you truly trusted in the atoning work of Christ for your salvation?  Have you repented of your sins and turned away from them?

Paul said this in 2 Corinthians 7:10, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”

This is the first step in being set free of sin and bondage in your life, without this you have little hope.  You can do the twelve steps that these people teach about in the AA meetings and be taught that once you are an alcoholic or a drug addict or whatever, you will always be these things.

But read what Jesus said about God’s true children in John 8:31-36, “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”

Sin enslaves; it has a way of dominating your life, your attitude and it brings condemnation, shame and also guilt, but Jesus can set you free of all that and give you His perfect peace, love and joy and in the process He can also heal the scars and the wounds that sin has caused.

Maybe you are very sincere about being set free of the sin and bondage that seems to have a grip on you, and you have prayed and sought the Lord for deliverance, but you are still struggling.  If so, you need to take action, and part of this is resisting the temptation and to take a stand determining not to allow your emotions, or anyone or anything, to hinder you from resisting whatever it is.  Take a stand and take control and get your feet grounded in the Word of God and resist with everything you have in you.

When a person wants to be the best he can be at any kind of sport they have to commit themselves to vigorous activities.  They have to make sacrifices, maybe in their eating habits and other things that would hinder them in meeting their goals.  They have to be determined to get rid of everything that will hinder their progress.  And you will have to make a conscious effort to get rid of whatever it is that entices you to fall back into the same old sin.  The Lord has provided the Holy Spirit so we have no excuse when we don’t overcome these things, if we have the Holy Spirit within us.  God’s Word says that it is not by power or by might, but by my Spirit saith the Lord!!

There is no sin or bondage that the Lord hasn’t broken in people’s lives and yours is no different.  You may need to find new friends, the kind that will build you up and tell you the truth even if it hurts.  Many times it is not what you want to hear that is important but it is what you need to hear!!   I am not talking down on anyone, I have been there.  Yes, I thank God that He has delivered me from many things in the past; but I face struggles every day that I need to overcome and I don’t always do it as well as I would like to, but I know I have no excuse and I have to repent and try harder the next time temptation comes knocking on my door, so to speak.

This might help; you are not only hurting yourself but in many cases you are hurting others and the worst thing about sin is that you are hurting the Lord who shed His blood for you and for me.  So, like I said, stand your ground and if you are a true believer you have help to overcome and can overcome any temptation and sin.

What does it say in Hebrews 12:1-4, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”

Something to think about and I hope you will, and then act on what you have read.  May the good Lord bless you and yours and may you have a super day!! Don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord!!

(Grace that doesn’t make a person better is counterfeit grace!!)
