“And unto man He said, The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” Job 28:2
What does it mean to fear the Lord?
Does it mean to take advantage of Him or to take Him for
granted?
Does it mean to only obey Him and only seek Him when you are
in trouble? Does it mean to go to church
on Sunday and get a quick fix so you feel better, then live like the devil all
week?
What does it really mean to fear God, because that is the
beginning of wisdom?
Read what it says in Psalms 111:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding
have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”
When a righteous man feareth God and keeps His commandments He
will be blessed. Read Psalms 112:1-10, Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that
feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall
be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth
and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever. Unto
the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of
compassion, and righteous. A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide
his affairs with discretion. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the
righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil
tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established, he
shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. He hath
dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his
horn shall be exalted with honour. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he
shall gnash with his teeth, and melt
away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.”
Now read Proverbs 1:7, “The
fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and
instruction.”
The fear of the Lord is to truly honor and respect Him and keep
his commandments and to live in awe of His power. Wisdom means to have a strong desire to be
more like Him and trust in Him knowing that He knows all things, the beginning
from the end, He is the only one that can make you truly wise. It is important to show deep reverence for the
Lord to your children showing them where your dependency is coming from so that
they will also reverence the Lord as they grow up and learn the fear of the
Lord.
Now read Proverbs 3:5-18, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in
thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel,
and marrow to thy bones. Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits
of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses
shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord;
neither be weary of his correction, for whom the Lord loveth he correcteth;
even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Happy is the man that findeth
wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is
better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She
is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to
be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand
riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are
peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every
one that retaineth her.”
I am not saying that you have to be scared to death of the
Lord, because He loves you, but He is also a just God who chastises, or corrects,
those He loves; but when He does it, it for our own good. Always remember that, and don’t be angry when
it happens, just know that He has your best interest in mind.
Enough said, I think you got the jest of what I am trying to
say. I have given you something to think
about and there is so much more that you should seek out for yourself and I hope
you will. I wish you and yours a super
day and the Lord’s blessings on your lives!! And don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord
for He is truly worthy!!
