Sickness and Sin

Question: Do you think sin and sickness are always related?  Have you ever prayed something like this for a sick person, “Lord if they haven’t repented of something they need to, help them to take that step right now then please heal their sickness in Jesus’ name amen?”  Maybe many people haven’t prayed that way because they don’t want to offend anyone.  We seem to live in a world where you have to be so careful not to offend anyone.  The truth is that the truth will always offend someone, because it is like the old saying, ‘the truth hurts,’ and many can’t stand to hear the truth; but think of this, the truth is the only way that a person will be completely set free.  The truth is, people that want to be popular tell people what they want to hear and not what they need to hear.  We need to start telling people what they need to hear and not just what they want to hear.

Now I want to say this, not all sickness has to do with sin, but they truly go together hand and hand in some cases.  Let’s put it this way, if you drink beer or wine or whisky excessively for many years you will have a good chance of developing some kind of sickness eventually by wrecking your body.  If you smoke weed or regular cigarettes for some time, you have a good chance of developing a disease.  Any of these things and many others have a potential of hurting your body and causing a disease.  God didn’t prepare a body for us to destroy.

Let me give you an example of this in God’s Word, please read Mark 2:1-12, “When He returned to Capernaum after some days, it was heard that He was at the house. So many were gathered that there was no longer room for them even outside the door. He kept proclaiming the word to them. Some people came bringing to Him a paralyzed man, carried by four men. When they couldn’t get near Yeshua because of the crowd, they removed the roof where He was. After digging through, they lowered the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying. Yeshua, seeing their faith, said to the paralyzed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’ But some of the Torah scholars were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, ‘Why does this fellow speak like this? He blasphemes! Who can pardon sins but God alone?’ Immediately Yeshua, knowing in His spirit that they were raising questions this way within themselves, said to them, ‘Why are you questioning these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, and take your mat and walk’? But so you may know that the Son of Man has authority to pardon sins on earth. . ..’ He tells the paralyzed man, ‘I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home!’  At once the man got up, took his mat, and walked before them all. They were all astonished and glorified God, saying, ‘We’ve never seen anything like this!”’”

Think of this, Jesus acknowledged their faith, but He didn’t say your faith has made you well, no He said, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”  In this case sin must have been the main problem and faith must not have been the main factor.  Now don’t get me wrong, I think you must have faith when you pray but if you are holding on to unconfessed sin, your healing may not be accomplished.

Here is an example of one who did not sin but was born blind to bring to light the works of God through him.  Please read John 9:1- 5, “As Yeshua was passing by, He saw a man who had been blind since birth. His disciples asked Him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?’ Yeshua answered, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned. This happened so that the works of God might be brought to light in him. We must do the work of the One who sent Me, so long as it is day! Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’”

If we are truly followers of Jesus, we all know that we are born with a sin nature and because of it, we are called sinners in need of God’s grace and forgiveness.  But this man was born blind to glorify God, so he wasn’t guilty of sin in that case.  What I am saying is, be sure you have confessed any sin you may be holding onto and truly repent, then come to the Lord with your prayer request and pray as Jesus did in the garden, ‘not my will, but thine be done!!’  I pray that this was a help and a blessing.

Enough said, may you and yours have a super day and may the good Lord bless all of you with His perfect peace, love and joy and health and happiness, amen!!  If you haven’t, don’t forget to thank and praise the Lord because He is worthy!!
